Matcha is one of those flavours that tends to divide opinion on the first try. That is also what makes it interesting: depending on how it is prepared, it can taste remarkably different - clean and chilled, creamy with milk or fruity with strawberry.

What does matcha actually taste like?

Matcha naturally has a gently bitter, vegetal flavour. Milk softens that side considerably, while fruitier or sweeter ingredients turn it into a very different drink. So someone might decide matcha is not for them, then order a Strawberry Matcha two weeks later. It happens.

Iced Matcha: clean and uncomplicated

Iced Matcha puts the matcha itself centre stage. Served cold, it tastes fresh and direct. If you really want to taste the matcha and are not looking for anything too heavy or dessert-like, this is a good place to start.

Matcha Latte: distinctly creamier

Matcha Latte takes a softer approach. At The Leaf, matcha meets creamy coconut milk, rounding out its bitter edge without losing it altogether. If matcha appeals to you but tastes a little intense on its own, this could be more your thing.

Strawberry Matcha Latte: add strawberry

Strawberry Matcha Latte brings together strawberry, matcha and coconut milk. Strawberry adds fruitiness and sweetness, matcha provides a gently bitter contrast, and coconut milk pulls everything together with a creamy texture. It is more playful than a classic Matcha Latte - and the mix of strawberry pink and matcha green looks rather good on the table, too.

Frappéa Matcha: with vanilla and espresso

Our Frappéa Matcha combines matcha with a vanilla frappé and espresso. The result is creamier and sweeter, with a distinct coffee note. It does not have much in common with a classic matcha anymore - but it does not need to. Sometimes a drink can simply be fun.

Which matcha is right for you?

Try the Iced Matcha if you want the matcha itself to come through more clearly. For something creamier, the Matcha Latte is worth a look. If you prefer your drink fruitier and sweeter, go for the Strawberry Matcha Latte. And if matcha, vanilla and espresso sound like a good combination, the Frappéa Matcha is waiting. Or order a few versions for the table and taste your way through them together.
